About Martin

Martin Halle's journey into visual effects began with a foundation in graphic design, transitioning into the field in 2001.

He quickly ascended to become the lead 3D artist on numerous TV series, movies, and commercials, pioneering the 3D departments at both Stargate Digital Vancouver and Spin West. His expertise also extends to serving as a set visual effects supervisor.

His career highlights include contributing to major productions at Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) as an FX TD. He worked on "Indiana Jones 4," creating dynamic effects for the throne room destruction, and on "Pirates of the Caribbean," where he developed simulations for the memorable crabs sequence.

Martin's talent led him to MPC Vancouver for "Watchmen," where he focused on dynamics effects, and later to Weta in New Zealand to work on "Avatar." At Weta, he was instrumental in creating the rig for the Ampsuit Gun muzzle flash and the missile and grenade smoke trail, also taking charge of all missile trails shots. His experience also includes using Houdini at Rising Sun on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."

Returning to Vancouver in 2011, Martin joined Prime Focus, contributing to a massive water simulation for "Final Destination 5" using NAIAD. He further showcased his skills at Rhythm and Hues studio, creating water simulations for the award-winning "Life of Pi," focusing on the pool and dolphin sequences using both NAIAD and Houdini. His work also includes a wide range of effects for "R.I.P.D."

Following RnH's bankruptcy, Martin returned to Prime Focus as Lead effects technical director and later worked at Zoic studio.

In 2014, he joined the Scanline VFX team, specializing in water and fluid simulation using their proprietary software Flowline. There he created countless large scale simulation for many blockbuster movies.

After eight years at Scanline, he became FX Supervisor at Distillery VFX, helping built the fx department.

Currently, Martin operates as a freelancer, specializing in water and fluid FX simulation
